May I please use this opportunity to nerd out about how much I love these two because I CAN’T…CONTAIN…ALL THESE FEELINGS…
I just admire and adore how much these brothers are so selfless towards one another. In the original universe, Kyousuke goes as far as destroying his very passion for the sake of Yuuichi. In Chrono Stone universe, again, he places Yuuichi above his own passion for soccer. Simultaneously, Yuuichi in the original universe encourages Kyousuke to pursue his dreams, even if it meant slimming the chances of him receiving operation for his legs. Yuuichi in the Chrono Stone universe bloody travels through time to return Kyousuke’s passion in soccer at the expense of him being unable to play soccer again.
In the previous Inazuma series, sibling relationships were usually portrayed as the older one typically acting as the protector or ‘hero’ of the younger sibling. With the Tsurugi brothers, despite their significant age difference, their relationship is that of a reciprocal sharing of strength and protection for one another (this is why I particularly love their assigned avatars as Lancelot and Pendragon…!)
Another endearing point is how differently both of them express their kindness towards each other. Yuuichi is obviously much gentler- being the older brother, he is stern yet diplomatic. Kyousuke on the other hand, is much more reserved, keeping his true feelings to himself and secretive with his decisions. That kind of contrast is what makes their sibling relationship convincing to me- the way their personalities align with their roles as the older or younger sibling.
Having such a mature and kind-hearted role model such as Yuuichi, there’s no wonder why Kyousuke seems to strive too hard to be an adult, which usually conflicts with his real desires. Perhaps he has the perception that to be mature is to be uncomplaining, and thus refrains from voicing out what he truly wants. However, no matter how far Kyousuke may stray away from his path, Yuuichi, without hesitation, would make sure to drag his brother back towards the right direction.
