Shindou is absolutely captain material.
It’s not only just because he’s a great tactician, but he really does think a lot for his fellow teammates. As Endou said something along the lines of Shindou’s tears being a sign of his conviction as a captain, he truly puts his heart into both the sport and the team spirit he shares with his comrades.
While fandom likes to make fun of him being a crybaby, you gotta remember the amount of pressure he is under, and the only reason why he cries is because he cares so damn much. He doesn’t want to lie about his passion for soccer, yet he frets about causing trouble for the rest of his teammates, in his words ‘jeopardizing their future’. He was afraid, and you couldn’t blame him. Seeing him grow so confident in himself and in his teammates as he strives along with his resolve, truly demonstrates a great development in character, in which is really hard to not admire.
I especially like the way he oversees Ichino and Aoyama (biased, because I love those two haha) and warmly welcoming them into the team without hesitation. During the match against Akizora challengers, he smiles fondly as he observes the two: “It seems like they’re enjoying themselves” I just love how attentive he is towards these two. He really does look out for everyone, just like a captain should.
